We were told it's all just Fairy stories! NOPE !

 The middle English  word Fairy, origin from the Old French word Faerie,. It's defined  as an enchantment, or Illusion. Faery’s have been  spoken and written of since ancient times all around the world  including Egypt.

In the lore of fairies, and also in fairy stories, these spectral creatures were often viewed as  “of a nature between spirits and men…” (MacCulloch, 1912). In general fairies had either a human-like appearance or were spirit/ghost-like creatures.  In some shape or form fairies  are a world-wide phenomenon.  Wherever fairies occur, they have some similar characteristics in common. In many respects fairy beings resemble human beings. The ‘faeries’ have been called the ‘wee folk’, the ‘good folk’, the ‘fair folk’. Fairies can be solitary, as portrayed in  fairy stories these spectral creatures were often viewed as possessed .

All occupations found in primitive communities were followed by fairies that included hunting, dancing, herding and farming, as well as being skilled smiths, shoemakers, weavers and spinners. (Briggs, 1957)

Thus comes the stories of magical forests,  fairy rings, and fairy mounds.  It makes sense that these people who spent their lives living with nature, and tradesmen who created useful things would have told of their own experiences among each other. As the  stories spread across the countryside their experiences  take on new twists as they pass word of mouth from person to persons. 

For my Purpose here I will use the English (Briggs 1957) model of classes of Fairies

The English Fairies classes;

Trooping Fairy - Heroic, or Homely

Solitary Fairy-small Fairy families

Tutelary Fairy- guardian,protector,patron

Nature Fairy -personify's a particular form. or force of nature

Supernatural Fairy - Hags - Monsters

So off I went to Prove it.. I will share what I have and stories that I have . I'm not a professional by modern day terms but I am well assimilated with the wild, and how it all works.

Where has the Beecharmer been?

 Well, it's a fine March day, the sun is shining. Great day to let you know how happy I am to be back Blogging again. 

My goodness life throws us the hoops to jump. I have had several life changing events since I last posted. Long story short, Still surviving the tireless job of taking care of my husband who suffers from a head injury for the last  26 years. I had a heart attack 3 years ago caused from Arterial Fibrillation, and thus suffered heart failure. Stress and diet related. I lost my beloved Sunny which almost killed me. He was my light. I Brought a new boy into my home 2 years ago. my little Flynn whom I love dearly. The following year my babies Kayla, and little Flynn in a fluke accident ran me over in my driveway and fractured my hip and femur. I was in Hospital 10 days with surgery. I then lost my beloved Kayla 1 year later. My heart still aches for my sweet sugar pants. 

Since then I have been training Flynn, and rehabilitating my leg . My outdoor hikes had been NONE . So last year I was sequestered in my home due to Covid.  After several months I thought  to myself I was going to make lemonade out of all these lemons I had been tossed .

I got out my old camera gear, and told myself no time like the present. So out to the forest I went with a quest, a personal one. I have always believed in the other worlds, or dimensions since I was a child. My love for Fae, Pixies,  Gnomes, and strange new creatures has been a part of my life. I always knew they were there, I  just never thought I could see them. So I decided it's time to prove it somehow. So off I went to spend my days, and some nights photographing, and videotaping in the forest. So at first  a lot of adjustment had to happen. I had to recenter myself in the wild, and adjust my cameras. I knew it was going to be  trial, and error to try to get anything but with time and love of my quest I have been successful. I found a way.

So my blogs in future are going to be  comparing folk tales, and fairy tales with the real proof that these beings actually were written from an exaggerated  truth of some kind. It will include folklore history, real  photos, and maybe short videos I have taken.

 I thought I would start this year with a  fun fact that I never really thought about much ->Surnames.

The fact is that ones surname is  a large puzzle piece of our ancestry. This was the info that I felt pertinent to the subject-

With that said, lots of names make sense to me now like, Taylor,  in old English  its spelled different but pronounced the same "Talleur"
Now some others are easy as well- Walker, Hill, Stewart, Wood, Butler, Fisher, Cole, Wells, Hunter, Berry, etc. Mine is Kitchens in old English spelled "Cycen".  So take a look see what's the real spelling of you surname..

Hi all, Oh my has it been a while. Two computers later, and a few heart attacks.. Well  that does not seem to keep this old gal down!! LOL

 

Year of the dog, my favorite! I have my two Aussies still and loving them every day. With Yule behind us and spring approach's I feel a great positive coming our way .To be truthful I cannot wait for that warm sun on my face again. I have great plans for planting some specialty gardens this year. I'll try to add a few pictures for the past couple years of my comings and goings and new subjects too! So glad to be back here missed the blog terribly.

Harvest time with lots of help !

Well its  been a long time since I gave a update on my resident helpers here at Ravenswood. Things were  a blaze this season with veggies and fruits this year. Lots of hard work, but best of all lots of great friends, and help, equaled a glorious harvest!
Some of you may remember my first encounter with Byrum Thimbleberry (2009). Well since then his cousin (on his mothers side) Ballota  Munstead came up from Rootunder, to live, and help Byrum with duties here at Ravenswood. We've been happy to have him. Ballota's  help was much needed and his expertise in vole control, and removal from my pumpkin patch was very much appreciated!!
To our surprise, two days ago near the entrance to Rootunder, my dogs and I came upon a new fellow. He introduced himself as; Thymus BeeBliss from "Twisted Maple Grove". (a short stretch of the legs from Rootunder.) Thymus informed us that Bryrum; (his uncle ) had requested that he join him here at Ravenswood for his training in gnome residency. He is young, but seems eager and strong so I will leave it up to Byrum  to see to his comfort. Here at Ravenswood we can always use extra hands..

MY DIY Project

Well, I think I like it!!! duc tape has always been a staple around my home. But not the colored type? So I gave it a whirl on a yard sale find. I had been looking for one of these old kitchen chairs FOR EVER! A little rust on the legs and a worn out seat, but a little  black spray paint and my choice of duc colors and here it is..

The Spotted Towhee is a large, striking sparrow of sun-baked thickets of the West. When you catch sight of one, they’re gleaming black above (females are grayish), spotted and striped with brilliant white. Their warm rufous flanks match the dry leaves they spend their time hopping around in. The birds can be hard to see in the leaf litter, so your best chance for an unobstructed look at this handsome bird may be in the spring, when males climb into the shrub tops to sing their buzzy songs


But what this does not say is. He is a a little creep, he loves to destroy my garden he nips off the new sprouting cabbage , squash of all varieties, cauliflower, broccoli, CORN, Brussels sprout, green beans..

 I have for the last few years pre started everything in the green house and then transplant in when big enough to take a hit. In the beginning ( 25 years )  I had to replant and replant. Then I went to extensive  bird netting. This year he is attacking the bigger transplants brand new? Its like he was waiting.. I even caught him in my green house once this year. Not eating anything, just destroying, I think he needs a shrink !!

Vietnam Memorial Tribute

Hi all, I found a web site some time back honoring Vietnam Soldiers that died in action. My cousin Jimmy died there when I was ten. His death effected me very much . The way I feel about war, politics and government. With that said I mentioned it to family members about uploading a photo. I'm not sure who did it, but through the grapevine the word went out . Hi All , Wow, has it been hot here at Ravenswood. I am almost done planting the gardens now. Oh of course I had to give it one last shot at corn seeds all mine were old stock some back as far as 2003. So I "seed whispered" LOL - 40 to sprout. Took some doing but sweet corn here I come!! This is a picture of Sweet Pea Farm, and my farm stands in place. Sweet Pea Farm has had some lookers, although it is not officially open yet. Very exciting.

Trying something new in my bee hives.. Thought this looked fun.   Going to give it a try. We will see if my bees like it?
